Draft Minerals and Waste Local Plan (MWLP) – Consultation

We are consulting on the first draft of the Herefordshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan, which will form a part of the planning policy framework (Local Plan) for Herefordshire, and would like to know your views.

The paper will be consulted upon from Monday 21 January to Monday 4 March 2019.

Minerals and waste planning is concerned with the delivery of sustainable minerals supply and waste management. This includes; providing for the efficient use of minerals, the effective minimisation and use of wastes, and enabling self-sufficiency and resilience.

The draft MWLP will set out the strategic priorities for minerals and waste development in Herefordshire until 2031 and beyond. It contains the vision, objectives and strategy for minerals and waste planning. It also contains detailed policies and locations for future minerals extraction, (such as sand and gravel pits or crushed rock quarries) and for the development of waste management facilities (such as recycling centres).

The draft plan and more information, such as associated evidence base documents, and details on how to take part in the consultation, can be viewed online at the following web address: www.herefordshire.gov.uk/mineralsandwaste

Documents can also be viewed online at libraries and info centres across the county.

Parish councils of areas potentially affected by development of sites will receive additional specific information and hard copies of the documentation will be made available at their local library/information centre for residents to view offline if they would prefer. That information will be sent out today, so will be at the venues over the next few days.

Those parishes are Ashperton, Aymestrey, Bredwardine, Burghill, Craswall, Dormington, Mordiford, Moreton, Pembridge, Pipe & Lyde, Shobdon, Stoke Edith, Wellington and Wigmore.

An informal drop-in session will take place at the following venue, where officers will be available to answer any queries:

The Courtyard, Edgar Street, Hereford, HR4 9JR from 1pm – 3pm on 5 February 2019

Responses received during the consultation period, along with further evidence gathered, will help formulate the pre-submission version of the Minerals and Waste Local Plan.

If you have any questions about the consultation or need help completing the questionnaire, you can call us on 01432 260146, 01342 260137 or email us on ldf@herefordshire.gov.uk
